Formed in Vancouver in 2012 by expats from the southern hemisphere, VRLFC began their first season of competition at the inaugural 2013 British Colombia Rugby League (RLBC) International 9’s Tournament held in Squamish.
Founded by players with a passion for rugby league, the Dragons went on to participate in the 2013 RLBC season playing their home games at Brockton Oval, in the well-known Stanley Park. The Dragons were to break away from the norm of attaching itself to the traditional Vancouver Rugby Union club and forming their own entity. By doing this, they were able to take on players who played rugby union in the winter and didn’t jeopardize playing for a different club come the summer. Although having strong playing ties with players from VRRFC, Scribes RFC, Kats RFC, Meralomas RFC and Burnaby Lake RFC, Dragons are also joined by players who share a similar passion for the sport and live in the beautiful city of Vancouver.
For the 2026 season, the RLBC will have 4 competing teams:
Point Grey Thunder
Vancouver Dragons
Vancouver Valley Vipers
Whistler Wolves
The season typically starts with a 9's tournament - toward the end of May/start of June.
The full season runs through June and July finishing with the Grand Final usually held in August.
There is a bye round for the Canada Day long weekend.
Practice for the 2026 season takes place Thursday at 6:15 PM at Emily Carr Elementary School (grass field). Whether you’re new to the game or returning, everyone is welcome.

There are currently no restrictions on international players playing for our club. Although our club is completely amateur so there are unfortunately no opportunities for payment. We do have contacts for work and accommodation in Vancouver and the lower mainland, so come join our rugby league community. Please be advised also, players are required to provide their own playing health insurance (MSP, Travel Insurance that covers amateur sport) as the players insurance covered by the Canada Rugby League requires this.
